Farm Ponds

Farm ponds all over the country can hold great bass fishin and I learned this growing up in Ohio. Farm ponds in Western Washington generally need to be stocked with bass, but those that are offer some great fishing. A friend of mine recently turned me on to a little spot near Arlington that is a farm pond located on private property. Ponds like this are fishable, you just have to ask the landowner or resident. These little puddles you can see driving along county roads create an integrated network of bass fishing ponds. Small streams run through the farmlands here and were dammed up by farmers years ago. These little ponds are manmade and many are stocked with bass. These fingerlings escape into the stream system and thrive in the next farmer's pond. These ponds dont contain huge bass like cornbelt farm ponds, but the light fishing pressure and the solitude are welcome, and the fishing can be fast and furious. If you are tired of jetskis and drifting by dock parties, and are looking for some good largemouth and smallmouth fishing, scout out some farm ponds and talk to the folks in the area. Get permission to fish these little holes and you'll have a nice place to get away from the crowds. Just remember to keep the area clean and try to leave it the way you found it, or better. And its a real good idea to practice Catch & Release always, but especially when yer catchin fish someone paid for.
